Navigation

The website's main menu is built from its pages. Navigation in the admin sidebar shows every page in one list. You decide which pages are in the menu, their order, and which page each one sits under. The header menu, the breadcrumbs, the footer and the sitemap all follow the same arrangement.

Arranging the menu

Each row is a page, with:

  • a switch that puts the page in the menu or takes it out;
  • the page's title, a link to it in the editor;
  • a badge when the page is unpublished, or shown only to signed-in visitors;
  • the page's address;
  • a section select, to move the page under another page, or to None (top level);
  • Move up and Move down, to order it among the pages beside it.

Your changes stay on screen until you press Save menu. Discard changes returns to the saved menu. Leaving with unsaved changes asks you first.

Saving checks the whole menu before it writes anything. A page placed under itself, or under one of its own sub-pages, is refused with the reason, and nothing changes. A saved menu is live at once.

What the public menu shows

  • A page appears when it is published, switched into the menu, and visible to the visitor. A page shown only to signed-in visitors appears only for them.
  • Top-level pages are the menu's headings. The pages under each one open from it.
  • Pages under the same parent are ordered by their position here, then by title.
  • The header always starts with Home, and shows News and Blog when the site has them.

Service links with the Navigation placement sit in the same header. They show at the foot of this screen. Edit them on the Service links list: see Service links.

Who does what

Only administrators change the menu here. An editor sets Show in navigation, Nav order and Parent page in the page editor, on the pages they are allowed to edit.
