Publishing
An item is a Draft until you publish it. A draft saves with any field empty and stays off the site. A published item is on the site for everyone it is meant for.
Publishing an item
Any of these publishes:
- in the editor, set Status to Published and press Save;
- in the content list, press a draft's status chip and confirm;
- tick several drafts in the list and press Publish.
Each checks the fields marked * first. The editor names any that are empty, Required before publishing, and moves to the first one. The editor's Ready to publish line says every required field and language is filled.
On a site that asks for approval, an editor's Publish becomes a request for review. See Revisions and approval.
Scheduling a release
Posts, notices and events carry two dates.
- Posting date: set it in the future, publish, and the item appears at that time. The editor reads Scheduled — this will appear on the site with the date. Left empty, it is set the moment you publish, and later edits leave it there.
- Remove from site after: the item comes off the site at that time on its own.
In the list, a scheduled item shows scheduled, and an item past its removal date shows removed.
Taking an item down
- Press a published item's status chip in the list and confirm, or tick several and press Unpublish. The item returns to draft.
- Set Status to Draft and save.
- Delete it. It moves to the Deleted filter, where Restore brings it back.
Previewing before you publish
Preview in the editor's header opens the item's public page in a new tab, as saved, published or not. A bar across the top marks it as a Preview. Save your change first, then press Preview to see it on the page.
Only a signed-in staff member sees a preview. Anyone else who opens the same address sees the published site.
Who sees it
Visibility decides who reads a published item.
- Public: every visitor.
- Signed-in visitors only: a visitor who has signed in. Others see its title and a prompt to sign in, and the item stays out of the lists, search, the menu and the map for them. The list marks it Sign-in only.
How quickly the site updates
A saved change is live at once. A visitor who already has the page open sees it on their next load.
After publishing
A published post, notice or event has Notify subscribers, to send it now. See Subscribers. Publishing alone sends nothing.
