Community map
The website has a public map at /map, under Map in the site's menu. It shows, on one map, everything on the website that has a place, and the live layers an administrator connects from other systems.
What the map shows
- Your own content. Every published event, place, page and post with a location point or a drawn shape, up to 2,000 of them. Each one links to its page.
- Map feeds. Every feed an administrator has switched on. A feed draws its points, lines and areas in its own colour.
A legend under the map names each feed with its colour.
Published content with a location appears on the map with no extra step. Give an event or a place its location in the editor, publish it, and it is on the map.
What residents do
- Pan, zoom and rotate, by mouse, finger or keyboard.
- Press a point, a line or an area to see its title. Your own content links to its page, in the visitor's language.
- Expand map shows it full screen. Close full-screen map, Escape or Back returns to the page.
A map inside an article waits for a tap: Tap to interact with the map. The page scrolls past it freely until then.
Map feeds
A map feed is a live layer from another system, given by its address. Your Aptli hub's public portal feed is the usual one. Any GeoJSON address works.
An administrator manages them under Map feeds in the admin menu.
- Press Add feed. A new row appears, switched on.
- Give it a Name and its Feed address (GeoJSON). The address starts with
https://. - Pick its Colour.
- Press Save.
Shown switches a feed on or off without removing it. Remove feed takes it off the list. The website holds up to 20 feeds.
The website reads each feed every five minutes, up to 2,000 shapes per feed. While a feed is out of reach, its last shapes stay on the map.
A feed also serves the Hub mini-map section: an editor picks any switched-on feed for it.
Your events on the hub's map
With the hub paired, your published events, and your places when that switch is on, also appear on the hub's own community map. See The service hub.
Who does what
Only administrators manage map feeds. An editor who opens Map feeds reads Only administrators can manage map feeds. Everyone can see the public map.
